Fashion // Off Shoulder Stripes

Ruffles, off shoulder, blue and white stripes... the trifecta! Can you ask for anything more in a top? To say I'm into this outfit is putting it lightly, I absolutely love it! I fell in love with this top when I first saw it online (as detailed here) but it's even better in person. Don't you love it when that happens? The fabric is a thicker cotton that won't wrinkle in your suitcase (A+ travel top) and the cut is very flattering. I paired the top with my favorite tassel earrings and skinny white denim. There are also some adorable matching shorts that go with the top if that's more your speed! I finished this look with a printed clutch from a new favorite Etsy shop, 38th & Co. This clutch is so fun and perfect for a tropical vacay. It's also an amazing deal at under $30!

Fashion // Blue & White Romper

I wore this adorable blue and white romper to explore the second oldest city in Puerto Rico (after San Juan), San German. I never thought I was a romper person. I figured they wouldn't look good on me or would be uncomfortable, but boy was I wrong. I absolutely love this one! The vertical stripes and waist cinching tie are very slimming, and of course anything blue and white is a-ok in my book. Consider me a romper convert. I paired this outfit with a vibrant lime green cross body ($35!), tortoise shell jewelry (necklace and bracelet) and my favorite sandals.

Fashion // Tropical Maxi

Hello from Rincón! I wanted to swing by to share this new off shoulder maxi dress  I picked up for my trip. It's fair to say this is my new favorite dress. It's perfect for a tropical vacation (or for the warmer months). As mentioned before, I absolutely love an off shoulder silhouette. I think it's a very flattering cut, and baring your shoulders helps to offset the more voluminous bottom of this dress. The print is gorgeous pastel colors and the soft, airy fabric makes this dress a winner.  Another plus, the fabric is a little thicker and textured so it doesn't show wrinkles. The perfect travel outfit! I wore it for sunset drinks on the beach and got so many compliments. Absolutely love it! If you're looking to add a new maxi to your wardrobe for the upcoming summer, I highly recommend this one!

I'm very much looking forward to escaping NYC for Puerto Rico this week. I'll be exploring an area my parents have been living in for the past couple months, Rincón. Rincón is on the west side of the island and is known for surfing and a laid back atmosphere. I'm excited to share the area with you all and will be writing a travel guide upon my return. In the meantime, follow my adventures on Instagram! Here are some fun links and articles that caught my eye this week...

Packing List // Rincón, Puerto Rico

My parents have been in Rincón, Puerto Rico for the winter, and I'm so excited to head down to visit them next week. Last weekend in the city was brutal. On a day trip upstate I watched the car thermometer drop down to -4! I can't wait to soak in the sun (with SPF of course), see my parent's favorite spots, and maybe check something off my 16 goals for 2016 list. It's going to be a very relaxing week, which is great because when I come back I start a new job (totally new career path in a totally new field)! Lots of changes going on around here! I normally am someone who HATES change, but I'm really pushing myself to grow... more about this and tips on starting a new job later. For now, let's focus on warm weather fashion!

When I saw this little number I knew I had to grab it for Rincón! And I've been lusting over this for a year, it's so adorable in person and was worth the wait. Here's to a week of sun and sand!

Off The Shoulder Tops

I absolutely love off the shoulder tops and I've been seeing so many cute ones hit stores for the spring. With an upcoming trip in mind, I want to share some of my favorite off shoulder pieces that I've been eyeing.

This just arrived, and it's even better in person! I wasn't sure about pulling the trigger, but I'm really happy with it! I've been dreaming of this off shoulder beauty and may have to snag it before my trip! Are you a fan of off the shoulder silhouettes?

NYC Day Trips // Upstate New York

Last weekend we took a drive upstate to the Catskills to go skiing at Hunter Mountain. Along the way we stopped at some great little spots that I want to share with you all!

The Phoenicia Diner was on our way to Hunter Mountain and it made for the perfect breakfast spot. It looks just like any regular old diner along the side of a highway, but when you step inside you can tell it's something special. First off, looking at the other restaurant patrons makes you feel like Brooklyn transported to Phoenicia, NY. Almost everyone inside was from the city. Second, the menu goes way beyond your typical diner menu. The menu focuses on a modern take on traditional comfort foods, and most of the ingredients are sourced from local farms. Phoenicia Diner really is something else, and if you're ever in the area I highly recommend a pit stop here. Perfect fuel for a day of hiking in the Catskills.

Brunette is an adorable little wine bar in Kingston, NY. I read about it online and immediately knew I would love it. Lots of marble, pink, and gorgeous vintage paintings and photos... swoon! When I found out it was an easy detour on our way back to the city I just had to work it into our plans. It definitely did not disappoint! The menu isn't huge, but the wine list is well curated and the snacks offered are delicious. The owners were working behind the bar and were so kind and such wonderful hosts. Delicious wine, gorgeous spot, and lovely owners... A+ spot!

NYC Day Trips // The Bronx

The Bronx holds a very special place in my heart. I spent four years there as a student at Fordham University. I think that many Manhattanites and visitors to the Big Apple overlook The Bronx as a day-trip option, but it’s really easy to get to and there are so many great things to do.

Getting There: The Bronx is a huge borough, but all the locations I’m talking about today are easily accessible by taking the Metro North train from Grand Central to the Fordham stop. You can also hop on the F subway train and get off at Fordham Road. If you’re not in the mood for public transportation an Uber ride wouldn’t be too costly.

What To Do: The New York Botanical Garden is one of my most favorite places in all of NYC. The NYBG is set right across from Fordham’s main entrance. As students we would jog around the gardens for a work out, go sit by the Bronx River (which runs through the garden) to talk, and many of my friends volunteered there. One of my dearest college friends is getting married in the garden this summer! The NYBG is a historic landmark and its 250 acres are filled with a diverse array of plants. The garden hosts many wonderful events throughout the year... from an orchid show in the late winter through spring, to a train show around the holidays, there is always something interesting going on. The garden is also gorgeous in the winter. I went this past weekend and was in awe at the serene beauty of the snow covered landscape. If you’re worried about being cold walking around the garden in the winter, there is a huge glass conservatory which holds tropical flora that you can explore.

The Bronx Zoo is about two blocks away from the Botanical Garden. It’s one of North America’s largest zoos and hosts over 4,000 species. Some of my favorite things to do at the zoo are the wild Asia monorail tour and visiting the Madagascar exhibit. If you have a flexible schedule, the zoo is ‘pay-what-you-wish’ on Wednesdays!

Where to Eat: Arthur Avenue is a close walk from both the NYBG and the zoo. It’s known as NYC’s real Little Italy and features tons of bona fide Italian bakeries, delicious Italian restaurants and fun bars frequented by Fordham students. Manhattan’s Little Italy has become very touristy, but Arthur Ave has remained very authentic over the years. Some of the best Italian food you can gets in the city is on this street.

Some Arthur Ave favorites: Wood-fired pizza at Zero Otto Nove, Tino’s Deli for an amazing eggplant parm sandwich, cookies and filled-on-the-spot cannoli at Madonia Bakery, outrageous pasta dishes at Roberto’s and grabbing a drink at the BronxBeer Hall which is tucked inside the impressive Arthur Ave Retail Market. If you’re looking for a quick bite, Pugsley’s Pizza, which is right outside of the Fordham gate, is a student favorite.

Winter Whites

Trying my hand at a winter white outfit today! I've always loved the way they look, but they're tricky to get right. You really have to pay attention to fabrics and textures. Anything too lightweight won't look right in the cold weather. White cashmere, chunky knit sweater dresses, and outerwear look so chic and appropriate since the fabric is heavy. Throwing on suede boots and fur are good tricks to 'winterize' white jeans or a white skirt too.  Do you wear white in the winter? Any favorite winter white pieces? I'm sharing some favorites in the widget below.
